April 29th, a special Jazz Month Concert at Venice Island Performing Arts & Recreation Center [VIPARC] in Manayunk, we present Philadelphia’s own Hiphop/Gospel Fusion artist, Ohene Savant and his Year Of The Savant project, featuring an all star band led by drummer, Kim Pedro Rodriguez. This concert will happen at the breath-taking, and funky intersection of Hiphop and Jazz.
Ohene Savant is a Philadelphia-born and raised Hip-Hop, Gospel and Jazz Fusion musician. Moving to Accra, the capital of the Republic of Ghana, West Africa, where he spent his teenage years. He recorded his first demo tape at the age of 13, which led to his first television appearance in 1997 on Smash T.V., a national television show in Ghana. He came back to the states to study at Temple University. As a multi-instrumentalist, rapper, singer and record producer Ohene brings a unique, powerful and unapologetic approach to his broad love of music and telling his story through song. He will collaborate with an ensemble of all star local musicians to present a classic set of music targeted at Hip-Hop and Jazz fans and lovers that beautifully and seamlessly merges Gospel, Jazz and Hip-Hop.
